Thousand Trails The Oaks At Point South RV Campground

The Oaks at Point South should not even be in the Thousand Trails network. The location would make for an OK basecamp to explore Savannah, Charleston or Beaufort but this is NOT a destination campground.

Overall Campground Appearance / Cleanliness

  • This campground is nothing but dirt, mud and bugs. The facilities are in need of repair and and the sites are stacked on top of one another and very small. Many seasonal/permanent sites taking up any spot that may be somewhat nice.

Weather

  • The weather was hot and wet.

Connectivity Sprint / Verizon / Television

  • The Sprint signal is OK here not great and the same for Verizon. The Verizon was extremely slow. We also have added AT&T to our internet stable and we mainly depended on the AT&T while we were here.
  • TV Antenna reception is unknown as they have FREE CABLE! Woot! We watched a lot of TV since the campground was so miserable.

Activities / Amenities

  • The park has a green sludgy pool that was not open. We heard they’ve been waiting on a part to fix it, but they could at least cover it or clean it instead of leaving it to look like a cesspool.
  • They had mini golf but the course was pretty wrecked.
  • We did not get an activity schedule upon check-in, but they did have bingo one night. We did not participate, but it looked like a lot of people did. That’s probably the highlight of events there.
  • The club house has FREE Wi-Fi.  Each night you could see people sitting on the porch with phones and tablets watching movies or checking their email.

Proximity to local services

  • There’s nothing in this town. You’re driving 30 minutes to get to a Walmart.
  • Three restuarants, 2 of which we tried. The chinese restaurant was OK and Fletcher’s Finds was pretty good.

  • Lucky Duck Distillery – the highlight of our stay. Make sure you get the Peanut Butter moonshine!

Water, Electric and Sewer

  • The water, electric and sewer connections were adequate at our site

Availability Of Craft Beer / Wine

  • Zip, zilch, nada. The only thing you’re getting is Lucky Duck spirits.

Best Campsites

  • None

Campground Atmosphere

  • People keep to themselves. I don’t blame them, the campground sucks. We were told a lot of people are there for a job site nearby.

Adventure Dog Highlights

  • Nice big lakes to walk around.

Garbage Collection

  • They do have more than one dumpster here. We were located right next to one and they came very early in the morning to pick it up. RISE AND SHINE!

    1. We stayed for 5 days. The place is a dump. It’s a convenient location to visit Beaufort and Savanah but it’s not a destination park. We were very disappointed. It’s as bad as everyone says it is. We didn’t even unhook the van for a few days because we considered leaving and going to Walmart.

      1. Stories like this are a part of the reason we’re not investing in TT yet. We don’t need destination parks, but expect a certain level of cleanliness, service, etc. Keep on providing those reviews!
